Now is the time to(re)Place I-345 and invest in South Dallas

Our mission is to replace I-345 with affordable housing, green space, and targeted economic investment while making reparations to communities harmed by the initial erection of I-345.

Community

I-345 destroyed historically Black neighborhoods and created segregation throughout central Dallas.

Right now is a golden opportunity to repair the disconnection and honor the history of these communities through proper people-powered planning.

We can replace the highway with a thriving community to rectify those historical wrongs.

Infrastructure

Dallas’ current paradigm of highways and poor public transit uniquely hurts our Black communities.

The current plan TxDOT plan will cost $1.6 Billion to construct, with no direct benefit to South Dallas

I-345 acts as a siphon, not a connector, away from South Dallas and other areas south of I-30.

Opportunity

Restore the cultural placemaking hubs that honor communities that were destroyed by I345, 45, and 75

Increase connectivity between East Dallas, Deep Ellum, South Dallas, The Cedars, Downtown, and Uptown to allow for easy connectivity to all of these great areas of Dallas

Inform Dallas residents of the racist impact of constructing highways in minority communities

“Black and Brown people relying on cars to get to work from their segregated communities to jobs in wealthier white segregated communities is a way to entrench racial segregation and poverty for another 50 years.”

— Jerry Hawkins, Director of Dallas TRHT
